The Wonderful Days With Mrs. Day (AP Eulogy)

One of my best,or should I say the best teacher I have had thus far in my lifetime is leaving me,and in this home going ceremony I would like to dwell on all her wonderfulness that I had the honor to bask in this past school year. Mrs. Keena Kendrick-Day has that certain intelligence that just makes you question yourself; and that is exactly what she did to me when I step in her classroom a month into school. Mrs. Day wasted no time trying to catch me up with the rest of the class, even though the effort was wasted. I came into the class thinking that the class would be a piece of cake (I know that's cliche), but reality hit when the first report card came and I had that PRETTY "83" sitting on the paper. This wasn't an easy "A" class, and she made sure of that by cutting the class almost in half, and I was almost a part of that few, but my pride wouldn't let me.The essays were killers, but I think that made me a better writer, especially the grading process; those side notes we very helpful I must admit, even though at times they hurt a feeling or to, but feelings aren't meant to be incorporated in the situations. I've never did so much reading in my life! Almost every month a new piece was to be read, and then the quotes from the writing prompts we had to complete have been forever etched in my head. The reading the stuck to me the most was the Invisible Man; being the I want to be a history major, it really help me narrow down the specific field that I would like to work in. All of the pieces we were required to read has changed my perspective on certain subjects in some way shape or form; I am now looking with a more broadened eye. It seems like I have the narrowed minded mind that has been developed by my Memphis surroundings, and have turned a new leaf, of some sort, and I guess you can say that I can see clearly now. Now, only a WOMAN of Mrs. Day's stature can transform a student, let alone, a persons entire perspective, but not to see it her way, but to see it new eyes: What a WONDERFUL WOMAN! Mrs.Day improved my way of understanding things. She does not want you to be a surface reader, because you will miss the real meaning of the passage. Mrs. Day pushes you to to do your best to the point, where she does not even have to push you but you then are pushing your own self to do your best. Mrs. Day was hard on us the first semester, and after the first semester it was up to you to motivate yourself. NO COMPLAINTS NO ALTERATIONS You can not change PURE PERFECTIONS
My days with Mrs. Day we the best even when I was not doing or feeling my best. And now that she's leaving me I don't know what I'm going to do with myself. I think I might start home school and finish my days at home rather than sit in another teacher's class. She will always be remembered.

Who Is The Invisible Man?

In the Invisible Man, by Ralph Ellison, Ellison purposely never gave the name of the name of the Narrator; although other characters in the book gave nicknames of the sort, his true identity was never revealed.

It was obvious that Ellison had model several situations after other important African Americans that had been involved in activism during that time period, but Ellison never gave the character a name. When the Narrator joined the Brotherhood he was given a name, but it was more like a how when a Masters renamed newly purchased slaves as a form of ownership.

Ellison never gave the narrator a name, possibly because he never had a true identity of his own, because he was always seen as he was. Whites only saw him as a "Nigger", blacks only saw him as "Opportunity": so he was only seen as his skin in both situations. Whites judged him before hand because of the color of his skin, and Blacks only seen him as an opportunity to assist in their plan of fighting back against the "White Man."

Ellison made sure that never stated the narrator's name because in every situation he entered he was never seen as who he was: black man. A black man that wanted to better himself by getting an education. A black man that wanted to step outside his comfort zone and view another life other than being known as a "Southern Nigger." 

The narrator name never mattered because he was never going to be called

by it; only by "brother" and "nigger".

Black Violence

Violence in the black community is high amongst ourselves.  These acts of violence are brought over senseless things; over things that really don't have a purpose; things that aren't even worth fighting over. Nonesense is really the perfect thing to call it. Gang violence is still a big component of black community violence but but a new thing has came to the forefront: "Just Because" Violence.  People are just inciting mass violent acts and having no cause for doing it. The person doesn't have any criminal or mental background,  a perfectly fine human being just goes out and commits violent acts and goes to jail and seems to be emotionally disconnected from the entire situation as if the act was obliterated from there mind. Black violence without a purpose, at thw end of the day, is nothig but a life lost that can never be given back.

Could Americans Give Up Pills?

(CNN) - -- Some friends and colleagues have been up in arms about an article in Wednesday's New York Times that discussed how exercise may be as effective as medication in treating heart disease and other medical conditions.

Dr. Aaron E. Carroll, professor of pediatrics at the Indiana University School of Medicineand the director of its Center for Health Policy and Professionalism Research, supports that excerise is just effective as medicine when it comes to treatment of heart disease and other medical conditions.

This doctor has a very old, but possibly true statement, because they say a lot of simple every day remedies can cure or treat serious health conditions, because medicine is all necessary, because medicine has possibilities and not defintelies. Doctors suggest that the patient takes some time pill, in hopes that it will subdue the condition of your health, but they also thrown in the risk, side effects, and the likely-hood of you taking the medicine and you becoming better.

Pills have become a safe haven for Americans, because they believe that if they these pills they will get them feeling well and back on track, but what they are not realizing is that they've becoming dependent on these pills , and that really that they believe that they will not be able to function without them.

I believe it is possible for Americans to give up pills, because once they realize they normal little activities will do them some good just as medicine would, then they would be just fine.

Is It Really Bullying?

I find the topic of bullying to be quite touchy, due to the fact that children are, to me, too sensitive now a days. People are too quick to call bullying, when the real reason for them doing that is that they are just weak willed and lack back bones. Not to go all religious, but some people were put on this Earth simply to be tormentors to others, but it is up to that person to go about it the right way, instead of taking drastic measures, such as harming others or themselves.
Bullying is real is some cases, but other have become victims to bullies only because their parents have willed them to become sensitive, weak, and defenseless against those who put them down. Instead theyb should be teaching their children to stand up against the bullies mentally and not physically.
Bullying only gets so far as the news or some national crisis due to the fact that children are too scared to tell adults, only because the adults around them have not broken down the barriers of comfort between them, therefore the children take it upon themselves to commit these acts of crime.
I'm not saying bullying is not serious, but it being carried way out of proportion; only because of the lack of communication.
Parents/Guardians aren't talking to their children, whether they are the ones getting bullied or they are the bullies. Communication can make a big difference, but it comes after something happens.
It takes some disaster for some change to come about. Laws are being made to protect future victims but if only it hadn't came such a big epidemic, and people took it more serious, like when kids are getting their lunch money taken or something, then it wouldn't have spun out of control to where children are killing others and themselves.
Bullying is real, but it could seize to exist only if we talked, before not after.

Amos Patton: The Man Accused in the Millington Naval Base Shooting

The shooting took place on Thursday, October 24, at 12:47 pm, at the Army National Recruiting Center on Attu Street in Millington, Tennessee. The accused, Patton, had reportedly just been released of his duties, after a complaint was filed against him, by a woman whom he had been seeing, had decided to break things off, and Patton wasn't too fond of her decision, thus resulting in the complaint being filed, and evidently resulting in Patton being fired.

" The complaint filed in US District Court this morning said Patton was asked to come to the Tennessee Army National Guard Recruiting Center Thursday and was “notified that he was being relieved of duty, recommended for reduction in rank and recommended for separation from the active guard reserve because of misconduct.” Courtesy of WREG 3 News

 The shooting at the naval base left the residents of Millington shaken; making them question whether they  should feel safe in the own neighborhood. Lots question how he could've possibly regain access back to the naval base after being relinquished of his duties.

I believe this entire situation could have been avoided but review said complaint with both parties present, but then again reports have surfaced with Patton having been in trouble previously, so maybe the action of releasing him may have been the straw that broke the camels back, so to speak.
